The design team at SpActrum, led by Yan Pan, found inspiration in the layout of ancient polytheistic temples in Greece. The boutique's layout reflects the visual-axis projection principles of the Acropolis, with three "bridges" or featured prop objects, arranged to guide visitors through the space. This arrangement ensures that the cashier's desk neither feels too prominent nor too remote.
The unique properties of HCH lie in its transformation from a commercial space to a "sacred" one. The design team recognized a classic Basilica prototype in the symmetrical columnar hall of the modern commercial shopping mall. This discovery led them to highlight the 'Basilica' character, emphasizing the status of consumption in today's society, akin to the status of religion in ancient times.
The realization of this design involved the use of GRC, Terrazzo, and Steel. The "bridges" in the boutique were a key point in the technical design and construction. The digitally designed construction ensured accuracy in the production phase. The laser-cut skeleton frame was produced under 3D computer-controlled casting and assembled by expert technicians to support the complex GRC surface.
The design of HCH faced creative, technical, and research challenges. The "bridges" were transformed into a runway providing a vivid fashion scene to enhance the customer experience. The curved pink plates are shaped into axis-symmetrical shapes with pulled-in waists, and the bridgehead reminds people of a pink tongue, stirring the desire for fashion.
SpActrum's HCH is a testament to the team's ability to blend historical inspiration with modern design. The boutique, spanning 700 sqm, features customized furniture and modular units, creating a unique shopping experience. The design, which was completed in 2019, has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021.
